Going into this race I was a bit unsure of how I would go as I had been off the Mountain Bike since the 1st South Island Cup when I had a big crash and were unable to finish the race. The Race in Nelson attracted good riders from all round the country and it was good to be racing against a big field.
I had a very good race and managed to gap the under 19 field early on in lap 1. The pace was hard once I had caught up to the elite race. Stuart Houlthan and Carl Jones were racing well and it was hard to keep up with them. Getting 2 punctures on my 2nd lap didn't help me out but I managed to get them fixed quickly and caught back up to Stu and Carl. Stu had a few problems to fix in the tech zone at the end of lap 3. I managed to get a gap on Carl going into the last lap and held it to the end. George Bennett on the day was to fast as I couldn't catch him by the end of the under 19 race.
I finished up 8.21min in front of the 2nd under 19 and took out the fastest average lap time overall.
Looking forward to heading up north in a couple of weeks for the 1st North Island Cup
